The Seen & Heard is a community that exists to gather Black readers around stories that reflect self-determination and cultural rootedness. Through honest conversation, we read for transformation and connection, one book at a time.
Who were we as a people before anyone else had a say?
It's questions like these and others that guide our reading selections and allow us to explore our history and stories in a way that allows for a more grounded and centered point of view.
What does living well together look like?
Our monthly rhythm and shared in-person spaces are things we hold dear. From our view, nothing can replace exploring ideas face to face. That is why we will never be a virtual book club. Come sit and yap.
What changed?
If a story is anything, it's an account of a character or a people on a journey. We curate our discussions to explore not only character development and plot, but also how our own lives can be informed for the better.
Here, we believe that the good life needs people and stories who can remind us of who we are and who we could become.
In so doing, we help people create space for stillness and reflection to encounter themselves and others in one of the truest of all relationships between human reader and human writer.
In reading intentionally and gathering monthly, we gain understanding about our culture and world as we seek to see what hasn't been shown and hear what hasn't been spoken, becoming the very stories of change we love.
Welcome to The Seen & Heard
